These results highlight a still deeply polarised electorate, with sharp divisions across gender, age and party lines.
Trump’s Favourability
Trump’s favourability ratings remained historically high among his base, with 85% of Republicans approving of him, including 56% who view him very favourably. However, among Democratic voters, Trump is overwhelmingly disliked, with 66% holding a very unfavourable opinion and only 5% viewing him favourably. Independents and non-voters are more split, with 31% expressing a favourable view and 44% an unfavourable one.
Demographic Divides in Trump’s Popularity
Gender and age groups reveal further divisions. Men are more likely to support Trump (51%) compared to women (41%), with 36% of women strongly disapproving of him. Trump is popular amongst all age groups, with all voters between 18 to 65+ registering over 40% favourability towards him.
J.D. Vance’s Favourability
Vice President J.D. Vance remains less well known, with 41% of Americans viewing him favourably, 37% unfavourably and 18% holding a neutral opinion. While Republicans strongly approve of Vance (77%), Democrats remain hostile, with 55% viewing him very unfavourably. Notably, 30% of young voters (18-24) remain unsure about him, indicating that his public image is still developing. Compared to Trump, Vance’s favourability is slightly weaker but he will remain a key figure in shaping Republican policy moving forward.
Is Trump Moving America in the Right Direction?
Public sentiment on Trump’s leadership remains as divided as his favourability ratings. 44% of voters believe Trump’s policies are moving the country in the right direction, while 43% say he is taking it the wrong way. Men (50%) believe in Trump’s direction whereas women (47%) don’t. Meanwhile those aged 25-54 believe America is heading in the right direction compared to 65+ (51%) who don’t. Among Republicans, 79% back his direction but only 12% of Democrats agree.
As Trump begins his second term, the nation remains deeply divided over his leadership. With nearly half of Americans believing the country is on the wrong track, Trump’s challenge will be converting sceptics and delivering tangible results to justify his second-term mandate.
